Giving a blog a shape and a name

You know, I wonder.

I started this thing a year ago now and I never actually wrote in it. Right now I'm writing this entry just to get a feel for things. To see if this is what I want to do. I guess the problem is that I'm very private, despite the fact that in person some may think me gregarious and foward. One thing I think I need is direction. I would feel less vague. Hmm. I know, we'll begin with the idea of a name.

I named this blog "cabalgando en la quijada del diablo" (riding along the devil's jaw) because upon reading something I discovered that this was a Spanish proverb. I collect proverbs and revisit them, carefully thinking about what they mean. The truth is that I collect many things, but this in particular comes from my dad. He would always bring up a proverb to make some point. Yet this saying in particular struck me. The image of riding along a path where that which tempts us is as large as life and where falling is tantamount to being consumed. I am also very attracted to images of devils and demonds and pan figures, a fascination which oddly manifests in the housing of a paper mache devil judas in my bedroom which very few people understand. I'll make sure to post a picture soon.

And with that is the begining. Now as the Quakers say, "proceed as the way opens."
